The Professional Adaptation Program has been launched

15 January 2019

As a result of the successful cooperation between the Georgian Bar Association and the Parliament of Georgia, a number of important amendments necessary for the further development of the legal profession were introduced into the Law of Georgia “On Lawyers.”

Among these legislative amendments is a change made to Article 10 of the Law “On Lawyers,” pursuant to which completion of the Professional Adaptation Program constitutes a mandatory prerequisite for entering the legal profession. This amendment ensures that individuals are equipped with practical knowledge and advocacy skills and facilitates their successful integration into the profession. The duration of the Adaptation Program is 12 months and consists of two parts: a 3-month theoretical course and a 9-month internship.

Persons who were members of the Association on or before January 1, 2019 are exempt from the obligation to complete the Adaptation Program. In addition, the Adaptation Program does not apply to persons who, on or before January 1, 2019, applied to the Association for membership in accordance with the procedure established by law.
