On December 13, the General Assembly of the Georgian Bar Association was held. The Chairperson of the Association, Davit Asatiani, summarized his eight years in office and presented the activity report to the members of the Bar. The chairs of the Ethics Commission and the Audit Commission also presented summaries of their one-year activities.
Within the framework of the General Assembly, in preparation for the elections of the Association’s governing bodies scheduled for December 14, members of the Association elected the members of the Vote Counting Commission.
Candidates for the position of Chairperson of the Association addressed the attorneys with their presentations.
A total of 126 candidates are participating in the elections, including six candidates for the position of Chairperson. During the elections, members of the Association will elect a new Chairperson, as well as members of the Executive Council, the Ethics Commission, and the Audit Commission. The electoral process will be conducted in a fully transparent and electronic manner, using optical scanners.
In his address at the General Assembly, Davit Asatiani emphasized the fundamental and significant reforms and projects that have brought the Association to a new stage of development, both in terms of protecting lawyers’ rights and strengthening the Association as a unified and independent organization at the local and international levels.
“We can all be proud that over the past 20 years, the Georgian legal profession has succeeded in establishing itself as a modern, qualified, and independent self-governing body. I am pleased that today lawyers are able to carry out their professional duties in a free environment and defend their clients and human rights without any fear or obstacles,” said Davit Asatiani.
