23 October 2026

For the first time in Georgia, the Georgian Bar Association has launched a specialized course in intellectual property law in partnership with Cornell University and with the support of the U.S. Department of State’s Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP). The course brings together Georgian and international lawyers.

The course is taught by highly qualified Georgian and American experts in the field.

At the opening session of the specialized course, welcoming remarks were delivered by Irakli Kandashvili, Chairman of the Georgian Bar Association, and Jocelyn Steiner, International Legal Advisor at the U.S. Department of State’s Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP).

The specialized intellectual property law course comprises a total of 56 hours and includes both online and practical training components. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a certificate of qualification issued by Cornell University and be granted specialized lawyer status.

“The specialized course, which we have launched in collaboration with Cornell University and with the support of the U.S. Department of State’s Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP), is particularly important in promoting specialization in specific areas of law and supporting the professional development of lawyers. The program provides Georgian and international legal professionals with an opportunity to deepen their knowledge of intellectual property law and become familiar with international practices. Furthermore, course participants have the opportunity to obtain a certificate from one of the world’s leading universities, further enhancing the program’s professional value and contributing to stronger international educational cooperation,” noted Irakli Kandashvili.
