The Georgian Bar Association responds to the incident involving threats made against lawyer Tsitsino Tskhvediani due to her professional activities.

The Association firmly condemns the recent instances of pressure and threats directed at lawyers by various individuals, which clearly contradict Georgian legislation and international standards. Such actions endanger not only the rights of individual lawyers but also the autonomy of the legal profession and the rule of law.

The Bar Association welcomes the prompt, effective, and adequate response of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Prosecutor General’s Office in the case of lawyer Giorgi Bardavelidze, which is essential for ensuring the freedom of lawyers’ professional activities and maintaining public trust.

The Bar Association expects a similarly effective and swift response in the case of lawyer Tsitsino Tskhvediani. We call for a timely investigation and for those involved in the threats to be held accountable, in order to safeguard the freedom of lawyers’ professional activities in the future.

The Association believes that any form of pressure against lawyers poses a threat to the rule of law and underscores the necessity of an effective response from law enforcement agencies.
