The Georgian Bar Association has elected a new Chairperson. Irakli Kandashvili won the second round of the elections, receiving 1,473 votes, while the second candidate, Irakli Chomakhashvili, was supported by 1,366 members. A total of 2,855 lawyers participated in the second round of voting.
As a result of the first round of elections, the Executive Council, as well as the Ethics and Audit Commissions, were formed.
The elections were conducted by the Georgian Bar Association with maximum transparency and were held entirely in electronic format using voting machines. The electoral process was observed by 46 observers representing the chairperson candidates and non-governmental organizations.
No violations occurred during either round of the elections, and no complaints were filed.
A total of 126 candidates participated in the elections of the Bar Association, including six candidates for the position of Chairperson.
The manual recount of the chairperson ballot papers (cast votes) was carried out by a Vote Counting Commission composed of 15 lawyers elected at the General Assembly. This recount confirmed the results produced by the voting machines, in accordance with the Rules of Procedure of the General Assembly.
