Chairman of the Georgian Bar Association Meets with the Director of the Legal Aid Service

The Chairman of the Georgian Bar Association, Irakli Kandashvili, met with the Director of the Legal Aid Service, Otar Chakhunashvili. During the working meeting, the parties reviewed key areas of cooperation between the two institutions and discussed future joint initiatives.

The discussion focused on supporting the professional development of public lawyers employed by the Legal Aid Service and enhancing the effectiveness of their work.

The Chairman of the Georgian Bar Association emphasized the particular importance of lawyers’ professional independence in the protection of human rights, as well as the need to strengthen the guarantees of the inviolability and protection of the legal profession. According to him, safeguarding lawyers’ professional independence, reinforcing high ethical and professional standards, ensuring continuous professional development, and supporting lawyers are essential components of building a trustworthy, effective, and high-quality justice system. Irakli Kandashvili also presented the Georgian Bar Association’s vision, ongoing initiatives, and future plans in this area to Otar Chakhunashvili.

The parties also discussed possible legislative initiatives aimed at easing the caseload of lawyers employed by the Legal Aid Service.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties expressed their readiness to continue close cooperation and to work jointly toward strengthening the legal profession, increasing access to legal aid, and promoting a justice system that is focused on the interests of society.
